Originally from France, Betty Martin grew up both in Paris and Copenhagen.
She received a Masters of Fine Arts from L’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts de Paris,. She also studied classical drawing and painting with master Jean Leduc, as well as scenic and costume design for opera with masters George Wakhevitch and Jeanne Renucci (Peter Brooke, Cocteau’s La Belle et La Bete, Herbert Von Karajan).
Following the Beaux Arts, Betty worked on numerous theater and opera productions in Paris with Pierre-Jean de San Bartolome at L’opera Comique and Le Theatre Des Champs Elysees before shifting to production design in the French independent film scene, with (among others) award-winning directors Eric Zonca (La Vie Revee Des Anges) and Laurent Tuel (Le cercle).
It was in the late 90’s that Betty moved to New York to dedicate her life to painting.
Her passion for large scales and textures led to work on major music videos productions as lead scenic for artists such as R.Kelly, Buster Rhymes, The Spice Girls and Janet Jackson.
In 2001, she was chosen to redesign and sculpt the angels sculpture that adorns the apex of Manhattan’s legendary Flatiron building.
Betty was then sought out to lend her talents to high-end interior design, tailoring murals and faux-finishes to fit her prestigious clientele’s dream homes. Her extensive range of artistic experiences in varied media, combined with the highest standards of fine arts training in Europe, have allowed her to penetrate the client’s minds and collaborate with them to manifest the full realization of their vision. Betty designs one of a kind colors and textures with designers or directly with clients to create a mood in a space or an illusion through paint, with the added distinction of truly classic artistry.
In addition to her work in high-end residential design, Betty now divides her time between commissioned paintings and her new project “Pristine”, a series of paintings on nature’s abstraction.
